These issues include the need for proactive job growth and economic development as well as initiatives that support our young families as they work hard to build a life in our beautiful city.

In support of these issues I authored and pushed through the San Francisco Board of Supervisors a new Bio- Technology payroll tax credit which will help bring high paying, long term jobs to the city's new facilities in Mission Bay. As well, I worked closely with the Mayor and the Friends of Moscone to restore money in this year's budget cycle to for the renovation of the Moscone Recreation Center and over ten other Recreation and Park capital programs throughout the city. In addition, I am working to: 1) create an Office of Economic Analysis that will author a three year strategic economic development plan for the city and analyze proposed Board legislation for possible economic impacts; 2) develop job growth opportunities through our existing tourist, film and maritime industries; and 3) support youth and families by improving our health care and education systems.

I welcome and appreciate your support in these efforts and I look forward to hearing your ideas about how we can make San Francisco an even better place to work and live.

The evening was a great success and we were able to raise close to $25,000 in support of John Kerry. Your speech was sincere and focused, and clearly demonstrated the time and effort you spent learning about the Armenians.

In addition to proactively engaging in the effort to make a change in the White House, I have been allowed the opportunity through this effort to meet some of the brightest and most genuine people here in San Francisco. Making your acquaintance clearly added value to the event but it also touched me personally; befriending you makes me feel that much more a part of the San Francisco community. After almost two years of feeling like a foreigner, it is nice to know that I am respected as an active participant in the goings-on in our city.

I'm sorry I can't be on hand for today's ceremonies, because this is an honor in which Arnold should take great pride. Since graduating from Boalt Hall in 1960, Arnold has distinguished himself as a man of many achievements.

Today's dedication is a fitting honor for his many contributions to his fellow Californians. Now, his name will forever be linked with Boalt Hall * one of our nation's leading law schools.

I send my congratulations to Arnold Laub, and best wishes to all for a memorable dedication ceremony.

I think Arnold would be particularly effective as a member of the Public Utilities Commission, because he is bright, intellectually capable of discerning the genuine relevancy of facts surrounding any particular issue. In the alternative, I believe Arnold would render extraordinary service as a member of the Airports Commission, based upon all of the foregoing qualities and his prior experience in the field.

WHEREAS, He has been a Director of the Ambassadors League in San Francisco, Director of the Children's Vision Center of East Bay, Director of the Oakland Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the American Cancer Society, Contra Costa County Division, a member of the Board of Governors of the California Trial Lawyers Association, and a member of several national assocations; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Laub has received numerous awards, decorations, and citations, including having the Arnold Laub Lobby named for him at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, Boalt Hall, and he was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in the West; and

The pace of the campaign was such that there was little opportunity to pause to tell you of my gratefulness. I hope you will never cause to regret your efforts in my behalf.

We here in the Governor's office are indebted to you for your help in forming the California Service Alliance, Operation Flood Relief and the Vietnam Veterans program when you were a national director last year.
